Bitcoin held almost unchanged near $82,900 on Saturday as crypto marked one year since the October 10, 2025 flash crash. CoinDesk reports that Bitcoin and ether order books have rebuilt since then, while liquidity in smaller tokens keeps thinning.
Bitcoin
Bitcoin traded at $82,905 at 15:21 UTC, according to CoinGecko data. That is up 0.07% over 24 hours and down 2.28% over seven days. The 24-hour range was narrow, from $82,229 to $82,978. Trading volume came to $17.7 billion.
The price is a little above the $82,484 level in our previous recap, but the week as a whole is still negative. Decrypt reported on Friday that Bitcoin bounced after dipping to around $80,000, and that traders were placing increasingly high odds on a further slide before October ends. Chart: BTC/USD.
Ether and the majors
Ether rose 0.82% to $2,506.51 but remains down 6.5% on the week. The standout was Cardano, which jumped 8.46% in 24 hours and is the only large cap in the table with a weekly gain.

Market breadth and sentiment
Total crypto market capitalisation stood at $2.813 trillion, per CoinGecko. Bitcoin dominance was 59.1% and ether dominance 10.8%.
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index rose to 64 (Greed) from 59 a day earlier. It is still below the 73 reading of October 6, so sentiment has cooled over the week but stayed in Greed territory throughout.
What moved the market
A year after the 10/10 crash
CoinDesk reports that Bitcoin and ether order books are now deeper than before the crash. Altcoin liquidity keeps eroding, and spot trading remains well below its October 2025 peak. In a separate piece, CoinDesk says traders now have better tools to spot risks, but the forces behind the selloff remain. A further CoinDesk analysis counts 10 unusually large trading days in 2026, even as overall volatility has fallen.
XRP Ledger bug patched
According to CoinDesk, researchers showed how a payment on the XRP Ledger could create spendable XRP without the sender funding it. The finding prompted an emergency software release to fix the decade-old bug. XRP still gained 2.05% on the day.
Policy and network news
- Decrypt reports that a French National Assembly committee adopted amendments taxing stablecoin swaps and crypto exits by wealthy holders, then rejected the revenue section of the 2027 budget.
- The US CFTC is proposing a formal rule to treat certain event contracts, such as those on Kalshi, as swaps under its oversight, CoinDesk reports.
- Daily transactions on Robinhood Chain have fallen from 10.8 million to 6.2 million since mid-September, according to CoinDesk.
- Justin Sun said Tron's post-quantum cryptography is live on testnet, Cointelegraph reports, adding the network is ready to bring it to mainnet "at any time."
What to watch next
- France's budget. The committee votes on stablecoin and exit taxes came alongside a rejected revenue section, per Decrypt, so the measures' path is not settled.
- CFTC event-contract rule. The proposal advances while a legal fight over prediction markets continues, according to CoinDesk.
- Tron mainnet. Whether Tron moves its post-quantum upgrade from testnet to mainnet, as Sun has signalled.
- Late-October positioning. Decrypt's report that traders are pricing in more downside before month-end is one gauge of risk appetite to follow.
